Recreation Therapy is an evidence-based, goal-directed therapeutic practice that uses structured activities to support an individual’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being. It is more than recreation or leisure—it is a clinical approach designed to improve function, increase independence, and enhance overall quality of life.
At Nourish Wellness & Recreation Therapy, services are person-centered and tailored to each individual’s needs, strengths, and interests. Interventions may include creative arts, movement-based activities, sensory engagement, cognitive exercises, and functional skill-building tasks. Each activity is intentionally designed to support therapeutic goals such as communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, attention, and daily living skills.
Recreation Therapy can support individuals with a wide range of needs, including developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), mental health conditions, and older adults experiencing cognitive or functional changes. It also benefits individuals seeking increased structure, engagement, and meaningful participation in daily life.
The foundation of Recreation Therapy is individualized care. By meeting individuals where they are, therapists are able to use meaningful and motivating activities to promote growth, confidence, and participation in everyday life.
Recreation Therapy supports:
• Cognitive engagement (memory, attention, problem-solving)
• Emotional wellbeing and regulation
• Social interaction and communication skills
• Motor skills and functional independence
• Meaningful leisure participation and quality of life

At its core, Recreation Therapy helps individuals build success, connection, and purpose through meaningful activities they enjoy and engage in.
